Melody Thomas Scott’s new book, Always Young & Restless: My Life On and Off America’s #1 Daytime Drama, details her years of ab*use.
Melanie Thomas Scott has been hiding her pain for decades, but now she is finally telling everyone about the αвυѕє she went through as a child.
The 64-year-old star of The Young and the Restless tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, “I’m sure many people will be shocked to learn that I have that kind of background.”
These people have seen me in their living room every day for 41 years and think I’m my character, Nikki Newman. They think my life is perfect. Still, I believe it will be even more powerful for them to understand that anything like this can happen to anyone.
Always Young & Restless: My Life On and Off America’s #1 Daytime Drama is Scott’s new book. In it, she talks about how her late grandma αвυѕє∂ her and how several men s e x*u α lly αssαult*d her.
She says, “I think I’m healed now; I think I’m over it, but it never really leaves you.”
Scott gives credit to her husband, Edward Scott, who used to produce Y&R and now produces Bold and the Beautiful, and her children. The actor and her husband have a daughter named Elizabeth, who is 31 years old. She also has a daughter named Alexandra with the late Y&R makeup artist Carlos Yeaggy.
Edwards, on the other hand, has a daughter named Jennifer from a previous marriage, who helps her deal with her sad past. “I was always very strong and a fighter,” she says.
The actress says she is still working on her trauma “piece by piece” by meditating and going to therapy on a daily basis.
“There is no easy fix, but I’m hoping my story opens the door for people,” she explains.
