Respect Your Parents: A Short Story Everyone Should Read

After his father died, the son chose to put his mother in a retirement home and stop by to see her from time to time.

Once, he got a call from a retirement home… Mom is very serious. Please come by and see us. Son went to see his very sick mother on her deathbed.

“Mom, what can I do for you?” he asked. Mom said, “There are no fans in the old folks’ home, so please put some in.” Also, put in a fridge to keep food better because I often slept without food.

Son was shocked and asked, “Mom, you never complained while you were here. Why are you telling me all this now, when you only have a few hours left?”

Mom said, “It’s okay, dear. I’ve dealt with the heat, hunger, and pain, but I’m afraid you won’t be able to when your kids send you here!”

She told me very strongly to take care of what I left behind, and she said that’s why she wants to update the old age home: she was afraid that one day, my children would leave me there, and I’d go through the same thing she did.

“What you give is what you get.” Those were her last words.
